Obama, Clinton in Sultan Hassan Mosque
While in Cairo, President Obama and Secretary Clinton visited the city’s ‘Old Quarter’, the home of the famous Sultan Hassan Mosque. When I was in Egypt last year, I visited this Mosque and it is truly amazing architecture and of course, it has a rich, 600 year history:
…“His brief stay in the city also included a visit to the Sultan Hassan mosque, a 600-year-old center of Islamic worship and study in Cairo’s old quarter. There, Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton removed their shoes and, in stocking feet, sauntered down an ancient stone passageway as lanterns swayed gently from metal cables overhead. Obama peppered the tour guide with questions throughout. Later, Obama planned a stop at the Great Pyramids of Giza on the capital’s outskirts. Aides said the schedule also would afford Obama time to talk to Egyptian journalists and young people.”
