Remarks prior to their meeting:

SECRETARY CLINTON: Good afternoon. Today, I am welcoming Foreign Minister Faki from Chad. I am delighted that he could be here. We have many issues to discuss. Obviously, the very difficult security situation that Chad is dealing with means that there’s a great concern on the part of not only the region, but certainly the United States. So, Minister, thank you for coming.

FOREIGN MINISTER FAKI: (Via interpreter) Thank you very much, Madame Secretary. Thank you for welcoming me here. This is a proof of the friendship between our two countries that shows that our relationship of cooperation is a strong one between our two countries. You said it yourself: Chad is now facing difficulties in the region with our neighboring country, Sudan, what happened in Darfur. Two of those are concerns that the whole international community has, and I will be glad to discuss these issues with you. So again, thank you very much for welcoming me.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Thank you very much.
