Secretary Clinton to Host Millennium Challenge Corporation Signing with Moldova for $262 Million Poverty Reduction Grant
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will preside over the U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) signing of a $262 million poverty reduction grant with Moldova on Friday, January 22, at 12:30 p.m., at the Department of State. The grant will focus on investment projects in irrigation infrastructure, high-value agricultural products and road construction. His Excellency Prime Minister Vladimir Filat of Moldova will represent the Government of Moldova.
The Moldova signing ceremony is the first under the tenure of MCC’s new Chief Executive Officer Daniel W. Yohannes, who was sworn in by Secretary Clinton last month.
Secretary Clinton will be traveling to Montreal this coming Monday to help international efforts to raise more funds for Haiti:
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to travel Monday to Montreal for meetings meant to prepare for a donors’ conference to raise money for victims of Haiti’s earthquake.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters Tuesday that no date has yet been set for that conference.
The announcement comes as foreign forces try to control looting and violence that has slowed distribution of supplies. Many Haitians are still without help a week after the magnitude-7.0 quake killed an estimated 200,000 people….
Oh, and one more thing- Dick Morris is an asshole.

What did he say this time? And yes…he’s one of the biggest!
Well, I didn’t excerpt the article or go get the original from DickMorris.com because I didn’t want to draw too much attention to him because that is clearly what he wants. That said, I did post the link so if people were wondering what I was referring to they could check it out. The link takes you to an article quoting Morris blasting Secretary Clinton’s statements about Iran. The guy is a loser’s loser.
Once I wanted to leave a comment on his website to tell him how essentially everything he predicted about Hillary as SOS was wrong (he started the whole “Hillary in the Shadows” nonsense) but I found out you can’t leave a comment unless you register and pay $25! L.O.S.E.R.
LOL to your Dick Morris comment. There’s never been anyone who better deserves the nickname Dick.
BTW, Stacy, I wanted to reply to your Scott Brown post below, but couldn’t find the reply button, lol.
Anyway, I agree with your analysis.
A propos of nothing, I cannot believe that Massachusetts has elected a Republican Cosmo centerfold model to Kennedy’s seat. Just imagine this: if Brown were a woman, and had posed for Playboy, do you think there would be a sniwball’s chance in Hell he’d be the Massachusetts Senator today?
I’m here in Boston and I am too digusted/depressed for words about the new occupant of Ted Kennedys seat(and yes, it was\is Ted Kennedys seat and I’ll probably always think of it/refer to it that way. We in MA have not honored Ted’s memory.
This is a wake up call. I feel bad for Martha, but it wasn’t teds seat it’s the people seat and I think that was part of the problem enough people got angry about it they came out to take Obama’s agenda down. I honestly think people are getting tired of people claiming something as rightfully theirs. I think the dems are in trouble and I think Obama is about to learn the lesson Bill learned.
When I say it’s Ted’s seat I don’t mean it literally- of course it’s the people’s seat but I personally have not known a time when Ted Kennedy was NOT the Senior Senator and we always had someone to champion progressive values. So in a nostalgic way for me, he’ll always be the Senior Senator.
It’s a mistake for any party to take the voters for granted and that’s what the Dems in MA did. The base here was not excited so while Brown did attract moderates and independents the Dems took the progressives for granted. Again. I’m not buying into the pundit meme that people voted for Brown because Obama was some kind of evil socialist- again, the liberal base here was not energized and they were disappointed with Obama’s lack of real change. If anything, he’s maintained the status quo more than he’s changed it. I also don’t buy the BS coming from the likes of Evan Bayh saying that the loss indicates a need for the Dems to move to the right- we had eight disastrous years of conservative policies which helped create many of the messes we find ourselves in now (some were started back in Reagan’s time- it wasn’t all Bush’s fault). I personally think Obama has angered his base and that played itself out last night- I know democrats who voted for Obama who stayed home because they felt sold out by Obama- that hardly translates into MA being tea party heaven or a referendum on uber- liberalism on the part of Obama- what liberalism? I don’t see much liberalism from him? Bush bailed out the banks and the tea partiers didn’t complain. Obama pushed a stimulus bill that helped but didn’t have enough stimulus and that’s socialism? Please.
Coakley ran a terrible campaign and paid the price. Scott Brown ran a great campaign. Coakley assumed she would win and paid the price.
The idea that Scott Brown is going to go to Washington as an “outsider” and to change things up is laughable- what he’s going to do is go to Washington and protect the big banks and prevent financial reform. He’s going to protect the insurance industry and big pharma by trying to kill health reform (the current health reform is a mess but I think the GOP is against ANY health reform). In other words, he’s going to protect the status quo.
Granted, I’m a liberal and that’s my bias, but I think only part of the story about what happened her in MA is being told and everybody wants to use Coakley’s loss to promote their own agenda.
Sorry that above was so rambling. It was like 5a.m. when I wrote it.
Your rambling at 5am is better than most people’s carefully crafted speeches!
I hope I don’t sound like I’m dissing you Bay Staters (or sound overly simplistic) when I say this, but I think the “game changer” in the special election was Curt Schilling. A month ago, the Maasachusetts electorate — the ones paying attention to the issues — knew whatever they knew about Obama’s health care agenda and Coakley was 20 points up. When she got back from vacation two weeks ago, the Massachusetts electorate paying attention to the issues knew whatever they knew about health care, and she was still 10 points up. The tide turned dramatically, almost overnight, after she said Schilling was a Yankee fan. I think people decided on the spot that she was out of touch, and her comment about prefering to talk to other politicians than shake a lot of hands just sealed the deal. Unfortunately, more than we like to admit, voters make decisions based on gut reactions to seemingly minor details — a tear in the eye (Muskie); one misplaced “Aaaaarrrrr!” (Dean); an unfortunate photo op (Dukakis). I’m convinced this all ties in somehow with the curse of the Bambino. Or the curse reversed? Whatever.
The Schilling remark was one of those “Oh, no she didn’t!” moments and when I heard it I actually had to cringe. Brown did a great job portraying himself as a man of the people- whether he truly is or not is a matter of some debate- I happen to think he’s not but apparently people don’t think Coakley is either (a woman of the people, I guess).
Brown’s campaign reminded me a bit of GWB’s campaign when he managed to convince everyone that despite being an ivy league blue-blood, he was really just a little ‘ole Texas rancher who watched NASCAR on weekends and would look out for the little guy. Never mind the ranch was about a thousand acres and was really more of a “compound”- but I guess only MA liberals have big properties called compounds. But when Bush got to DC he didn’t really look out for the little guy- he looked out for Goldman Sachs and Enron and I think the same will be true of Brown, truck or no truck. Of course, I think Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers are also looking out for Goldman Sachs, which is part of the problem.
I understand the need to appeal to independents but if the Dems can’t get the base energized to show up for election day then Rachel is right- they are in big trouble.
I don’t know much about your state politics but it sounds bad.
Well Stacey how are you enjoying your new Senator? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Liberalism is dead and not a minute too soon!
Hey Bill? Just curious – have you donated a penny to Haiti yet? I have a little theory going here, and am starting a poll to test my hypothesis.
Oh, forgot to add, I agree with Peter Daou about his assessment of the MA Senate race:
