I was looking around for Hillary at nthe start of the SOTU speech and then remembered she was out of the country. Did it strike any one else as odd that her schedule was arranged such that she would miss the speech? I guess the speech was delayed, as I recall, and I know her schedule is laid out months in advance, so there may be a simple explanantion. The chamber felt emptier without her.
yeah, normally the speech is on the 20th (when there’s no inauguration) and the original date was the 19th but it was not official and for whatever reason it ended up being yesterday.
I didn’t watch the speech, but I’m hearing all the commentary today about it. As I recall, President Obama moved in the speech by a week, perhaps to avoid preempting the season premiere of Lost. That was the buzz anyway.
I heard this morning that Obama spent only 9 minutes out of the whole speech on international affairs and the wars. Interesting. I wonder if that impacts Secretary Clinton’s efforts abroad.
Thanks for this schedule. It’s nice to have specifics about what she’s up to.
I don’t think there was any hidden meeting behind her being away at the same time the SOTU was taking place. It was probably just a scheduling conflict and it was more important for her to go to London. Given the raised terror levels in England they may have decided it would be better to have two cabinet members not attend the SOTU instead of the usual one. At least that’s what I was thinking when I heard that even though Hillary was not going to be there, they still had another cabinet secretary not attend also.
Hillary is going down with Bambi’s sinking ship. Becoming SOS was a dumb move on her part.
CandyO, Staying in the Senate would’ve been worse, especially since we know how her Dem colleagues back-stabbed her during the campaign.
I just wanted to thank whoever provides this web site. I like hearing American policy but am also impressed that like so much others in America, you are willing to ask hard questions about Israel and Palestine and not just mimic American media.
There are two sides to each story.
Thank you.
