LOL! Omg, Carolyn you are too funny.

And what are you doing not starting your [work] day until 11a.m?!?!?! If I sent Scooter and Notch your way you wouldn’t be lolling around in bed until 8-8:30a.m! They’d have your butt out of bed at 4:30a.m.!

Props to you for volunteering with Haitian earthquake survivors – all the more because the irony is that the media’s attention has wandered on to other things now, but the real work (mental, physical, economic) for the survivors *really* is beginning in earnest.

The stories are heart-wrenching…mother who lost her two children…16 year old airlifted to States all alone because he has US Passport and parents do not…mother who was here visiting relatives when earthquake hit has has teen-aged kids living in the rubble that is Port-au-Prince — she can’t eat because she knows they have nothing…livelihoods lost…no money…

That stories sound horrible. It’s difficult to truly comprehend the gravity of what they are going through.

I hope that the US and other developed countries will agree to relieve Haiti of all its past foreign debt at the upcoming Haiti Donor’s conference. Their government hasn’t even been able to afford to create anything resembling a strong, resilient infrastructure so it’s naive to think they can do so while paying us back. Some other developing countries may balk at that but at this point, it’s absolutely self-defeating to be giving them so much economic aid while continuing to run a tab for past debts.
