Did they arrive together?
hi stacy,
Really wanna commend the good work you are doing. Its really wonderful but i’ll like to recommend that you caption the pictures that you upload i.e, put the names of the major persons appearing in such photos underneath them so that readers can identify them.
Once again, keep up the good work and we love you.
Omena
I was irritated to read (in the NY Times of course – they always look for any occasion to diss the Clintons) that Europeans were grumbling about not being asked to participate in the Donors Conference, and were referring to it as “the Bill and Hillary show.”
Gee, I wonder how much the European Union has pledged?
To me, this wholesale reference to “Europeans” by the NYT is no different from referencing unnamed sources. At any rate, I wonder whether the Times reporter know who EU High Representative Catherine Ashton is, and what entity she is supposed to represent. And this is the latest from BBC-UK: “US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told delegates the US would give $1.15bn, and the EU pledged $1.7bn.” (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8596080.stm) and according to the Voice of America feeder news currently on this blog, “Representatives from more than 100 countries are at the high-level donors conference.” Maybe the NYT and its “Europeans” hate the fact that Bill Clinton was asked by President Preval to co-chair the interim building authority that would oversee the use of the first batch of reconstruction funds for Haiti? Whether they like it or not, if not for the “Bill and Hillary show,” there would be no massive donors conference of this kind. After all, which of these richer countries ever showed any interest in Haiti previously?
f-a4HRC- EXACTLY! There are a zillion people there and “Europe” is certainly well-represented.
The NYT is pathetic. If they are going to write that then they have a responsibility to provide the *actual* facts as background- for instance, that in fact Europe is well-represented. I didn’t read the article but I have a feeling that may not have done them. You know, since they are the NYT and all.
“Whether they like it or not, if not for the “Bill and Hillary show,” there would be no massive donors conference of this kind.”
Too true.
The sad thing about some of the Times reporting is that is that outside the US, they are taken pretty seriously as sort of a view into what the US at large thinks. It’s sad that, with their words being so powerful, they aren’t more careful about putting their name on inferior pieces of reporting. Facts, people, facts!
Carolyn, I saw that. It was a parenthetical quote from a “senior European diplomat.” Yawn.
BTW, here’s the article:

Bill followed a few steps behind Hill when they entered the assembly. The camera did not show their initial arrival. As for the other stuff, the NYT with a few other pundits are just frustrated that all the negative predictions they made about the Clintons when Hillary was nominated have not realized. They’re scrapping the bottom of the barrel and looking for gossips. What they forget is that both Clintons are professionals who get things done. No sir, these two are not show horses.
So true, and so well said!
