Photo of the Day

April 17, 2010

Well, I’m having an exciting day of being held prisoner in my house waiting for furniture to be delivered.

I ran across this photo and I wasn’t sure if I had already posted it in one of the photo bombs, but nonetheless, I like it:

Love the photo! Are you going to do a photo bomb tomorrow? Hint, hint. :)

I’m a big Bill Clinton fan and I have briefly ended my boycott of CNN (because they hired that nutcase hatemonger who runs the Red State blog) to watch the Bill Clinton interview with Wolf Blitzer (who I really can’t stand- he was so good during the first Gulf War then he got his own show and started to suck). I hate to say this but Bill isn’t on his game. He seems to be rambling and in response to a question about the political hostility towards Obama- not just the legitimate differences of opinion but the really threatening rhetoric meant to whip up the tea party folks- Bill brought up Obama’s Kenyan roots, his Muslim relatives- it was just kind of strange. Then he said something about how Obama represents uncertainty to people who need to feel a sense of certainty and I think what he was trying to say was that some people feel threatened by the first AA POTUS but I don’t think he wanted to say that outright, which I understand. He was trying not to say something too loaded or controversial but to me it was kind of strange.

    Stacy- did your furniture come?

Steve- if I can find some new photos tomorrow morning I’ll do my usual Sunday photo bomb.

I saw clips of the Bill Clinton interview on line and I have disagree- I didn’t see anything controversial about what he said. I do think that you are right that he was trying to tread softly so as to not say anything that could be misconstrued and I think that’s what may have made it sound to you like he was taking a longer than usual amount of time to get to the point. I think with how out-of-control some people on the far right are right now I think it was smart of him to try not to fan the flames by saying provocative things.

As I watch some of the tea party news coverage and see signs that blast gay people and pictures of obama with the communist sickle superimposed over the picture, I am becoming more and more convinced that some of them couldn’t care less about the economy- they feel threatened by a changing country that no longer looks exactly like they do.

During the 2008 primaries it was outrageous how team Obama and many Obama supporters tried to paint the Clintons as racist and it was equally disgusting how during the general election McCain-Palin (and even Holy Joe Lieberman) tried to convince the far right that Obama was “different” and radical (ie. Muslim and anti-American) – it was a really low point for John McCain. I also didn’t buy into some of the more outrageous stories about Obama- that whole “Whitey Tape” nonsense and the birther claims- it just got totally out of control. I don’t like when people play the race card but as I watch some of these people at the tea party events it is clear that many of them are anti-Muslim people who don’t like having a black POTUS- even though Obama isn’t Muslim, they are convinced he is and nothing anyone says will make them believe differently. The John Stewart clip I posted below about Fox News just feeds into that nonsense.

Now I’m rambling, sorry, I’m tired.

Obama did play the race card and so did his surrogates. I agree that some of the more outlandish rumors in the blogosphere, like the gay-sex larry sinclair nonsense, didn’t really do anything to help Hillary. I used to go to No Quarter all the time but when things started to get really ugly over there I kind of stopped. I like Larry Johnson and it’s amazing how his blog attracted so many Hillary fans of all different ideologies but I think he kind of lost control of it and there started to be way too many conspiracy theories.

I went to No Quarter a lot. I don’t think there were conspiracy theories- there were legitimate stories the media wasn’t covering although when the Whitey Tape never surfaced, I did lose a bit of faith in the site. I will agree that at times they seemed to willing to believe every negative story about Obama that came down the pike but they also had a lot of good stories that the media simply refused to pick up because they were so in love with Obama.

There was some great stuff on No Quarter. As the general election progressed though I started to notice a lot of pro-Hillary blogs had become pro-Palin blogs and as someone who never bought into the whole Palin thing and because I’m not a conservative, it just turned me off. I was also stunned at how some pro-Hillary folks became so angry at Hillary for campaigning with Obama and then for taking the SOS position- I figured that despite everything that went down in the primaries, Hillary had a right to do whatever she wanted to do for whatever reasons she wanted to do it. During the general I became persona non grata at some Hillary sites because I would state the reasons why I felt that Palin wasn’t up for the job and why I thought there was no comparison between Hillary and Palin. I would be called an “Obot” (???) simply for disagreeing with Palin. A lot of blogs – Obama blogs and McCain blogs and even some Hillary blogs etc. became pretty intolerant of opposing viewpoints and that’s a pet peeve of mine- I can’t stand when people impose an ideological litmus test for their websites.

But 2008 is over and I moved on and I think Hillary is doing a great job as SOS and even though I really wanted her to be VP so that she would be set up for another presidential run, I think SOS is a much more substantive, important post.

Ok, I’m off to do a photo bomb
