Excerpt from Hillary Clinton’s ABC Interview
This interview will air on Sunday on Christiane Amanpour’s show- here is the show’s webpage for more info.
From the WaPo:
Taking a break from foreign affairs to dabble in domestic politics, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday she expects tea party candidates-turned-lawmakers to temper their rhetoric if they win office.
“I’ve seen a lot of people run for office and say a lot of things and then when they have the burden of holding office and the responsibility that goes with it,” Clinton said on the sidelines of Middle East peace negotiations in Jerusalem. “I’ve seen them become very sobered, very quickly, about the challenges we face domestically and internationally.”
“Nobody said it better than Mario Cuomo, who said, ‘You campaign in poetry, and you govern in prose.’ Sometimes the poetry can get kind of hot and a little over the top, but the prose brings you down to earth,” Clinton told ABC’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview set to air on Sunday.
The secretary also noted continuing bipartisan support for national security, defense, diplomatic and defense issues.
Turning to an issue that’s landed Clinton on the pages of celebrity magazines, she called her daughter’s recent wedding “the most wonderful experience,” but added, “leading up to it, it was stressful.”
“I think being mother of the bride is stressful under any circumstances,” Clinton said. “Doing it long distance, jet-lagged, on planes, in the midst of diplomatic negotiations, made it a little more so.”
