Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver remarks to the American Task Force on Palestine Fifth Annual Gala, on October 20 at approximately 7 p.m., at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Georgetown.
Secretary Clinton will reaffirm the U.S. commitment to a two-state solution and to a comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

While looking around the website I noticed this little blurb, which is quite significant in that it is a huge up-front concession on the part of the Palestinians. And it’s something that really hasn’t been acknowledged by the American media:
The Palestinians are ready to end all historic claims against Israel once they establish their state in the lands Israel occupied in the 1967 Mideast War, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday, addressing a long-standing Israeli demand.
I have a feeling Israel will ignore it, despite the fact that it is a huge concession because Israel doesn’t want to give up one inch of land beyond the Green Land. Perhaps that is why it has been played down in the U.S., because it exposes a key issue regarding Israel’s unwillingness to really compromise on anything. And of course, when they are building settlements in some of the very areas which the Palestinians hope to reclaim, it’s hard for Israel to claim to be negotiating in good faith at this point.

Oh, this is good. I like when she does outreach to the Arab community. Rarely does the US seem to openly reach out. I know they tried initially but then they sort of got burned by some interest groups that seem to think that if anyone speaks out on behalf of Palestinians it must mean they are per se anti-Israel. Such stupidity is mind-boggling.
I wonder if her remarks will be available via video afterwards? I hope so.

This is a step in the right direction, albeit a small one. I too believe that Israel will ignore the concession. They have been given no reason not to and I wont go any further on that because I’d rather enjoy this fleck of good news.
