“Secretary Clinton meets with a delegation of Iraqi women leaders working…on creating a community and legal framework to combat gender-based violence in Iraq…”
She’s not perfect, and I may disagree (!) with some of the Obama administration’s policies in the Middle East, but then I read something like this — which gets no media attention, of course, and for which Hillary gets no credit — and find myself wondering what other SOS would bother to take the time to hear and give voice to the concerns of these women? And how far will a seemingly small initiative like this goes towards improving our standing with the Iraqi people? Did Condi Rice or Madeleine Albright do anything like this?
Foreign policy is impirtant but we need a blog like this to ackniwledge all of the other work Hillary does and what she means to women around the world.. God knows nobody else in the media does.
“Secretary of State HRC to celebrate LGBT Pride Month…”
“Secretary of State HRC offers public support to Saudi women driving protests…”
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Yes Carolyn, she speaks out on behalf of women and lgbt folks more than any other SOS has or would.
Point taken
Right now I’m just very concerned for these people, most of whom are women and none of whom are practitioners of violence:
