Sorry, But It Needs to Be Said… *updated*

June 19, 2010

I usually wouldn’t write a post about this but instead just respond to each email individually and redirect them to the State Department, but given the HUGE amount of HATE MAIL I have been getting over the past several days dealing with Secretary Clinton’s comments about the Arizona immigration law, it needs saying:

THIS IS NOT THE STATE DEPARTMENT WEBSITE. So for all you folks who have been going to the “contact me” page thinking you are writing to Secretary Clinton, take a deep breath and look around. On the “contact” page it specifically says this is not Secretary Clinton’s web site and I was even so kind as to refer readers/commenters to the official web site of the Secretary of State at State.Gov. Same goes for the “About This Blog” page. I even used different colors to attract your attention to the obvious. Also, all of that notwithstanding, could it be any more obvious that this isn’t an official government web site, since government web sites end with .gov? Do you really think the State Department would have some cheesy, free WordPress blog which contains no information whatsoever on any other employee at the State Department? Do you think that the official web site of the State Dept. has a sidebar that contains a blog roll with links to the most progressive sites on the internet, including sites which are sometimes highly critical of U.S. foreign policy? Sadly, no.

Here’s are two examples of the emails- and they are mild in comparison to some:

Seriously? You degraded an American citizen, Governor Jan Brewer, and an American State, Arizona, thereby denigrating the entire USA to a FOREIGN COUNTRY?? Shame on you!!

How dare you!!

Your citizenship needs to be stripped from you, and you need to be expelled from the USA.

BTW: Arizona’s law is an enforcement of an ALREADY EXISTING FEDERAL LAW!

There is so much wrong with that that I am not even going to bother pointing it out.

Here’s another one:

I read today about your stupid, irresponsible comments about the immigration law in Arizona. You have no right to go to another country and flap your jaws about the people in America,or what the almighty Obama and the federal government are going to do to them!Ignorant politicians like you and Obama believe the federal government should control us all.Put yourself in the shoes of the citizens of Arizona before you start criticizing them and the Governor.A lot of the American citizens who live on the so-called border with Mexico have had their land trashed by ILLEGALS coming across their land into the U.S.Some have had their homes broken into by ILLEGALS.Some have had cattle and pets killed by ILLEGALS.Some have had vehicles stolen by ILLEGALS.And,some have even been raped or killed by ILLEGALS!But stupid,air-headed libs like yourself don`t care about any of this. You`re after the votes of the Hispanics.

So what if American citizens have to pay the price!Just as long as you get enough votes to stay in power.Politicians aren`t interested in what`s best for American citizens. They could care less about the wishes of American citizens, just as long as they stay in power. There`s a vast difference in a politician and a real leader of the American people. And you and Obama are two of the very BIGGEST politicians in the history of this country! You`re a disgrace.Governor Jan Brewer is a leader. She has the best interests of the LEGAL citizens of Arizona in mind.States can make their own laws. You Washington libs should stay out of it.You people don`t even have the common sense to fix anything. You make it worse than it is to start with.

So,keep your noses out of Arizona, and your big mouth out of other countries. You only make yourself and America look bad.You should still be in Arkansas, living in the backwoods somewhere taking care of Bill.We don`t need you.Never have.Never will. The Governor of Arizona is only doing what the useless,bought-off politicians in Washington refuse to do.Making life a little better ( and safer ) for American citizens. So,either help,or stay the hell out of the way!

I love the bit about the Secretary of State having “no right to go to another country and flap your jaws about the people in America,or what the almighty Obama and the federal government are going to do to them…” That’s priceless.

Should I point out that there is a bit of shoot-the-messenger going on here? It’s the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT that will be filing any suit against the law, NOT the State Department. Is it me, or is that painfully obvious?

A quick note to these folks about strategy- given that a majority of the email I have been getting specifically dealing with the Arizona law contains expletives and hateful descriptions of women (including the “B” and “C” word), you might want to stop and take a look in the mirror because some of you look really, really unbalanced. Internet anonymity is one thing, acting like a full-blown, hate-filled nutcase is quite another. If you really want people (including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) to consider your point of view, how about acting like someone that actually has one? There are legitimate arguments that can be made for the federal government not interceding in this case but as of yet, not a single person has made such an argument in their email and that speaks VOLUMES.

Have a nice day!

UPDATE: Wonkette, as always, has a great take-down of events and in particular, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who naturally went on a whine-fest at which teevee network?…..Come on, you know which one….Fox News of course! Sorry to say, but it was gossipy Greta Van Susteren who gave her airtime. Of course. Sorry Greta fans, but you can count me out of the Greta love-fest, I don’t care how many times she interviews Hillary. Her not so subtle attempts to play defense for all things Sarah Palin-related and her slavish devotion to the wingnuttery of her boss, Roger Ailes, is rather off-putting to a lib like me. But worse, her blog is just an embarrassment. Really. I’m more of a Fareed Zakaria or Christiane Amanpour gal, being the liberal elitist, cat-loving, latte-sipping, yoga-practicing, East Coast snob that I am. Dick Morris, eat your heart out. 🙂

Teabaggers cannot read, have you seen their signs. Hillary announced the lawsuit and that is it. If brewer wants to go after Hillary she is making a big mistake. So, please bring it on brewer.

Those people are funny, thanks for posting the emails. Brewer is a liar and a racist along with pearce apairo who followed stormfront on twitter and take pictures with neo-nazi T.J. Reddy. If Hillary is a traitor then so is ronnie raygun who granted amnesty to get votes and W who wanted to grant amnesty to get votes. If brewer has problems with Hillary she can call her. Hillary is not hard to find. Republicans caused our immigration problems and they will never stop unless we also go after the employers who hire them. But that will never happen because the employers fund the teabaggers. Deportations are up and crime is down in arizona. The rancher who was killed wife said he helped the illegals with water and would not like this law. When arizona started this their economy sucked and now it sucks even more due to the boycotts, way to go brewer.
Greta sucks and so does her blog. I really hate it when Hillary or Bill go on her show. She is not objective, her and her husband are palin’s press secretary. She has never asked palin the questions she asks hillary.

One more thing, I want are immigration laws enforced but not by neo-nazis. I thought the teabaggers did not want government help and now they whine that they do and they are no doing enough. These are also the same people who say government stay out of healthcare, but don’t touch my medicare. The supid it must burn.

This should not have come as a surprise to anyone, especially Brewer. I saw a clip if her on Greta, and she told them that if the Feds want to take this to court go ahead. She is just feigning outrage. Brewer is just going after Hillary for attention from other networks, not just Fox.

I also stopped watching Greta, every 5 minutes the name Sarah Palin comes out of her mouth. Palin doesn’t even hold office anymore.

Brewer does not know who she is messing with, hillary does not take kindley to brewer’s type of BS. Apario, brewer, and pearce may scare others but hillary is not one of them.

After MSNBCn 2008 went all x Obama, I turned to Fox news to actually watch someone who said something more real about Saint Obama, I think a lot of people did that after the Pres elections, that’s why their ratings went so high; I became Independent after the Dem fiasco; but I too just don’t watch Fox News anymore, because O’reilly, Hannity and Greta are all about Palin, they’re doing the same MSNBC did x Obama; they’re talking about her every single day, and I can’t stand that; so I now turn to CNN, are least they’re more impartial, in a whille Fox is going to suffer the same fate than cable news.I used to love Greta, but she’s no longer an impartial reporter when is about Hillary, none of them are.The other day when she announced that this young man was inspired to became a lawyer because Hillary inspired him, she didn’t bother to mention Hillary when she interviewd her! They’re all biased against Hillary and in favor of the air-head!

I never bought into the idea that Fox News suddenly started to love the Clintons during the 2008 campaign- I know a lot of Hillary supporters did- but I thought Fox was ultimately doing what they always do- pushing a GOP/conservative agenda by splitting the dems to make way for McCain/Palin. Also, even if Fox *did* suddenly decide they approved of Hillary (after 8 years of hunting both she and Bill mercilessly) I still wouldn’t watch Fox- they aren’t a news organization they are a 24 hour conservative informercial. And you know what? That’s fine, but then don’t pawn yourself off as some “fair and balanced” news organization. All news organizations have some element of bias at times- human being are imperfect and always will be, but I am sorry, there is no so-called “liberal media” conspiracy that benefits liberals and the Dems. If there was, we wouldn’t have gone to war with Iraq because it was largely the New York Times, LA Times and WaPo (all supposedly oh so liberal) which served as stenographers for the Bush administration (remember Judith Miller?)

The news is corporate, pure and simple and while sure, at times they seem more socially progressive than, say, the Family Research Council, they vilify liberals every chance they get, all the while helping prop up the far right in the U.S. as somehow more mainstream than it is. Almost as soon as Obama took office the networks immediately started warning Obama that he better not shift “too far to the left” but they had no problem when Bush shifted “too far to the right.” They also helped legitimize Bush’s lawbreaking with respect to torture and warrant wiretapping.

And it’s not just Fox. I stopped watching CNN a long time ago and occasionally turn on MSNBC (Ratigan and sometimes Maddow) just to see what kind of stories they are covering. I get most of my news online from McClatchy, Haaretz and news aggregators. I keep an eye on the NYT and other MSM outlets but only to see what they are covering and why.

Did the media love Obama? Yeah, they did. But was it his *purported* liberal ideals that they loved? I don’t think so. After all, in many cases (foreign policy and the wars being the notable exception), Hillary Clinton and Obama had very similar policy views. And in fact, Hillary’s more hawkish foreign policy views were more in line with those of the corporate media. But these days, the “news” is really infotainment dressed up as objective journalism. They knew with Obama they had a different story and they also had an entrenched dislike of the Clintons (just look at the impeachment coverage- something else that couldn’t have happened without the corporate media giving the GOP a platform for their ridiculous witch hunt)- again, it wasn’t about policy, but rather the same old ethically-challenged, moralistic nonsense that always guides them- ratings, $$, sexism and the next “new” thing.

And the negative coverage of Sarah Palin? Was it the result of some liberal media conspiracy? No, in most cases, it was totally deserved. I’m not talking about some of the demeaning, sexist nonsense from some quarters but the very legitimate questions about Palin’s competence and knowledge-base. She was a walking disaster. She also was more savy than people gave her credit for- she would make an issue of her family and her daughter’s pregnancy when it suited her (to show voters her “pro-life” bona fides) but then when it didn’t suit her, she claimed she was being treated unfairly.

But nothing will stop the right from using the straw-man of the “liberal elite media”- elite? Yes. Liberal? Hardly. They are entrenched Washington insiders who trade objectivity and journalistic ethics for access to the powers that be, whether those powers are Democratic or Republican.

It was sorta fun earlier this week to hear Chris “tingle-up-my-leg” Matthews and Keith “someone-outta-take-Hillary-into-the-next-room” Olbermann going off on Obama after his Oval office speech. Wow. How the worm has turned.

A propos of Palin, I couldn’t agree more that she was immensely unqualified for the VEEP job and that even the odious Charlie Gibson was entiled to hit her with some hard questions. But it was totally unconscionable that for the first week after McCain announced she’d be his running mate, all we heard about (thanks to Daily Kos who first spread the rumor), was that Trig was actually Bristol’s son; or expressions of outrage from the MSM that Palin had exposed her unborn child to the risks of amniocentesis; or John Roberts wondering if Palin could juggle the responsibilities of beIng VEEP with taking care of a child with disabilities; or Andrew Sullivan querying, “Is Sarah Palin a bad mother?.” The legitimate questions about her experience and qualifications followed later, after we’d been subjected to a full week of such ridiculous and blatantly sexist claptrap. God how I hate the press, liberal and conservative.

Repubs who attack either one of the Clinton’s will always come and go, but the Clinton’s still remain. That is what drives the right crazy.

Brewer can’t touch Hillary , and never will.

Carolyn I totally agree and the media still doesn’t understand how sexist it is. I think the stuff about her family and her mothering skills were ridiculous and sexist. I still think at times Sarah tried to use her daughter’s pregnancy for political advantage – that doesn’t mesm she deservedsexist attacks but I really think families should be off limits. Her daughters pregnancy wS a private matter and no one’s business.

Andrew Sullivan is a notorious sexist, so his comments were not surprising

Loved that takedown by wonkette there. of course brewer was grandstanding. and hillary has more important things to do than give a fig about anything she says.

The Tea Bag Party are just “haters not debaters” or as others have dubbed them “screamers not dreamers”, with their failed attempts at stopping Healthcare reform, they say they respect the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence but they do not mind passing laws, through weak Governors (no one voted for this crazy) who only cares about getting elected Governor, on the backs of undocumented workers, that will not pass Constitution muster.

    Brewer signed into law;

    1. S.B. 1070,
    2. No permit conceal weapons law,
    3. The famous Birthers law,
    4. Banning Ethnic studies law,

    5. Could she be behind the Mural in Prescott, Arizona, ordered to be whiten,
    6. On deck to pass, no citizenship to babies born to undocumented workers,

    7. If she can read she should look up Arizona’s House Bill 2779 from two years ago (which was un-constitution and failed when legally challenged),
    8. The boycotted Martin Luther King Day, what idiots don’t want another holiday? Yes, you guessed it Arizona.

Well Arizona, you can boycott new holidays and keep passing crazy laws and the rest of us will continue to challenged them in a court of law and continue to add cities to our Boycott of your state.

I real cannot believe anything that comes out of Brewer’s mouth, in an interview she first said her father had died in Germany fighting the Nazi in World War II (war ended 1945) but of course we find out the truth that father was never in Germany and died in California in 1955. But we are suppose to believe everything else she says, right! No one voted for you for Governor, yet you keep listening to the tiny brains of the crazies and signing into law everything that comes into their feeble minds, it only make you look dumb, stupid or racist, or maybe all three.

As for the Tea Bag Party, their phony patriotism is sickening; they are just racists going by another name. We all know you are just itching to put a sheet on their head? Let’s face it the Republicans had eight years to deal with health care, immigration, energy (remember Cheney’s secret meetings with oil companies where loosening regulation and oversight were sealed), climate change and financial oversight and governance and they failed. It appears that the Republican Party is only good at starting wars (two in eight years, with fat contracts to friends of Cheney/Bush) but not at winning wars as seen by the continuing line of body bags that keep coming home. The Republicans party will continue turned inward to their old fashion obstructionist party (and their Confederacy appreciation roots) because they continue to allow a small portions (but very loud portion) of their party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” to rule their party. I will admit that this fringe is very good at playing “Follow the Leader” by listening to their dullard leaders, Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush, Savage, Sarah Bailin, Orly Taitz, Victoria Jackson, Michele Bachmann and the rest of the Blowhards and acting as ill programmed robots (they have already acted against doctors that perform abortions).

The Birthers and the Tea Bag party crowd think they can scare, intimidate and force others to go along with them by comments like “This time we came unarmed”, let me tell you something not all ex-military join the fringe militia crazies who don’t pay taxes and run around with face paint in the parks playing commando, the majority are mature and understand that the world is more complicated and grey than the black and white that these simpleton make it out to be and that my friend is the point. The world is complicated and people like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt believed that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now it’s about dancing around the claim of government is the problem. The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. For a party that gave us Abraham Lincoln, it is tragic that the ranks are filled with too many empty suits and the crazy Birthers who have not learned that the way our courts work is that you get a competent lawyer, verifiable facts and present them to a judge, if the facts are real and not half baked internet lies, then, and only then, do you proceed to trial. The Birthers seem to be having a problem with their so called “Internet facts”. Let’s face it no one will take the Birthers seriously until they win a case, but until then, you will continue to appear dumb, crazy or racist, or maybe all three. I heard that Orly Taitz now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC), she wants to re-establish a family values party, that is like saying that the Catholic Church cares about the welling being of children in their care, too late for that. Yee Haw!
