The Tuesday Schedule You’ve Been Waiting For…

July 27, 2010

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has NO PUBLIC APPOINTMENTS.

What’s that I hear? Wedding bells?

Good. I’m glad she’s taking this time off, she deserves it and she should be able to take the time to enjoy helping Chelsea get ready for the big day.

Thanks to the folks for the link to Laura Rozen over on Politico has this photo with a description of Secretary Clinton’s flight back to NY.

From Laura Rozen:

…The Secretary of State has cleared her public schedule the rest of week ahead of daughter Chelsea’s wedding. (Chelsea will wear a wedding gown by Vera Wang for the big day, while the Mother of The Bride plans to wear a dress by Oscar de la Renta, the Examiner reports.) The Jewish Federations of North America’s William Daroff, who was on her flight, said Clinton was accompanied by her mother and a bevy of staff, and discussed new EU sanctions on Iran with him.

Goodness, Iran, Iran, always Iran! Ok, I’ll stop with Iran. Or at least I’ll try.

    Hi, Stacy!

Since it’s going to be a slow Sec-of-State-news week (not counting, though, all this silly speculation and media commentators’ barbs about the supposed cost of Chelsea’s wedding), I thought I’d share this commentary from last week about Hillary’s trip to Vietnam. Although Southeast Asia does not get the same amount of coverage in the US media (if at all, except maybe with Burma or the recent verdict from the war crimes trial in Cambodia), here’s a very good assessment from a long-time observer of the region: “Hillary Clinton: A US Secretary of State fluent in ASEAN”

Too bad the US media only cover the trivial, the conventional and/or the hawkish elements of Hillary’s public performance.

      Hi F-A4HRC-

Thanks for the article- I’ll check it out. Did you see my post below about two other articles which gave her props for the trip?

You are right about the US media tending to prefer to focus on just controversy or her [alleged] hawkishness. That really annoys me.

I’ll post your article in a bit- gotta run and finish up some work.

I hope the wedding goes well, the papparazzi behave themselves and Bill don’t keel over from nerves. Best wishes on the Clintons’ happy day.

Here’s a another reason why we need E. Warren as head of the consumer protection agency. I just read this in yahoo finance:
