TGIF Friday: SOS Hillary Clinton Appointment Schedule

September 17, 2010

When I got this schedule I fully expected it to say something like “the Secretary returns from foreign travel and no public appointments” or something to that effect but here it is:

AM Secretary Clinton returns from foreign travel.

10:00 a.m. Secretary Clinton holds a bilateral meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, at the Department of State.

11:30 a.m. Secretary Clinton chairs the first U.S.-Indonesian Joint Commission meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, at the Department of State.

12:45 p.m. Secretary Clinton holds a bilateral meeting and working luncheon with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, at the Department of State.

2:30 p.m. Secretary Clinton conducts a Swearing-In Ceremony for Ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein, at the Department of State.

3:15 p.m. Secretary Clinton holds a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Nirupama Rao, at the Department of State.

Good lord! I know she has a bed on the plane, but still. Ever traveled to Egypt/the Middle East? I have. I practically needed to be carried off the plane I was so tired and for the next few days felt like I was still on that plane. But she comes home and has a day jam-packed with bilaterals? In other words, after a whirlwind trip to the Middle East she has to come home and be coherent? And apparently so do her aides and advisers. My hat is off to them.

For all those that say she’ll be “too old” to run [if she so chooses] for POTUS in the future, this clearly is not the case. She’s like the energizer bunny.

I couldn’t help but notice that “Team Hillary” seems to push every Fox News talking point. What is that about? You aren’t a Fox News fan are you Stacy?

Fox News pushes (some of) “Team Hillary’s” talking points — with very different motives.

Agreed Carolyn- I’m probably a bit too biased given I’m a lefty but I have never trusted Fox’s motives. But I can’t really speak to those motives because I don’t watch Fox.

@ Susan- No, I don’t watch Fox. Never have, never will. I assume you are talking about the Facebook group “Team Hillary?” I don’t know anything about video selection, perhaps they like something they saw that was favorable to Hillary and thus promoted the video? To each his/her own.

Maddow is in some hot water with the Clintonites.

Now Lanny Davis is piling on her. I can’t stand Davis- he’s Mr. “I’m a liberal so let me tell you how terrible the liberal base of the democratic party is”- it’s typical fox news style liberalism. Bring some pretend liberal on a show and then let him lash out at the liberal base of the democratic party. Davis uses this tactic when he writes for the Hill all the time- he uses his willingness to label himself as a liberal to give himself legitimacy when he bashes liberals. Yawn.

He’s saying the Maddow is intolerant because she is “intolerant of anyone who disagrees with her.” Ok, but can’t the same be said of Lanny, who is lashing out at Maddow for disagreeing with him? Duh.

The GOP actively courts their base- rarely attacks them publicly and makes sure they are happy. The DLC establishment, of which Lanny is a pillar (being the hawkish, “moderate” that he is), hates the base of the Democratic party- except when they want donations during primaries.

You wanna see Lanny become intolerant of anyone who disagrees with him? Bring up Israel. Then his head starts spinning as he stammers and stutters about anti-Israel “liberals.”

By the way, I don’t necessarily agree with Maddow’s statement about Pres. Clinton- I think she’s a little unfair but she has a right to be as liberal as she wants to be. It’s actually a nice change of pace from the sell-outs like Lanny.

I think Maddow was a bit harsh about the former POTUS but Davis is being equally harsh. I guess two wrongs make a right. The thing is, Maddow seems pretty frustrated at times with Obama and as a liberal I understand that frustration but she’s lashing out at the wrong people IMO.

But I agree with you Marcus, the way the dems lash out at the base is totally unproductive. Their attitude is “vote for us no matter what, even if we enact policies you totally disagree with and even if we promised to do the exact opposite. And give us money while you’re at it.” But at the same time, those of us who vote for them despite being treated like doormats, probably share some of the blame too. I think we all understand the importance of compromise, pragmatism and political realities, but some of the stuff Obama peddled during the campaign makes him look like a total liar. He disagreed with Bush’s interrogation and detention policies, so know he makes it so he can get around the legal hurdle completely by just assassinating people? Interesting. Had he said anything like that during the campaign liberals/progressives would have left him in droves. I think that’s why he DIDN’T say it.

Wow, this is a sad story- I don’t remember hearing about this:

The extent of suffering that Bush’s administration brought to all affected parties in Iraq will probably never be understood. I only hope Iraq does not collapse into great violence again in the near future. It is not by any means what any of us would consider “safe”, and there are a lot of unresolved issues…
