Why is Hillary (and Obama) militarizing the State Dept.?

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/revealed-obama-envoy-quietly-promised-troops-iraq-2011/

In addition to turning the State Dept. “security service” over to private contractor militias like Blackwater (Xe) she and Obama are using this little State Dept. army to help this hawk-controlled administration to slime out of it’s promise to remove troops from Iraq.

No wonder Secretary Gates and Secretary Clinton are such good friends. Maybe she SHOULD be the next Secretary of Defense. Oh, but then how is she going to claim to help all the women of the world when the soldiers are raping and killing them and the conflicts are rendering those that survive homeless and vulnerable to abuse?

Of course, Hills voted for this stupid war. Funny, I never hear her talk about the over 100,000 (estimated) civilians we’ve killed. I bet some of them were women and children, don’t you?

Hillary likes to talk about women being at the table during peace negotiations. Has anyone asked her how many women are at HER table when she’s negotiating peace between the Arabs and Israelis? Because I always only see one- HER. Oh, and her body woman, whatshername that married that loser Weiner. She gets to carry Hillary’s water and makeup. Other than that most of her top policy advisers are men. But she’s good at talking the talk and that’s all you all care about here on this blog.

Ooohh, the concern trolls and astroturfers have been dispatched!

Could it be because Hillary’s ratings continue to soar? Could it be because she is the only Democrat right now who can beat any Republican presidential candidate in 2012 hands down? And that nearly half of the Democratic Party (not counting Democrats who left the party after May 31, 2008) surveyed by Gallup wanted her to challenge Obama?

Or that other world leaders now see that she should have been the President, and the American Idol-cum LeBron-cum Messiah-cum the Lightbringer-cum The Precious-cum Unity Pony selected by the Democratic establishment is truly in over his head (and he doesn’t even realize it)? Just compare the reception that Hillary and Obama got in their respective rainbow tours recently.

“Why is Hillary (and Obama) militarizing the State Dept.?” — Maybe your first question should be: Why hasn’t Obama put a stop to the use of military contractors? And how come the f___cked Democrats who controlled the purse strings from January 2007 until the lame duck session in 2010 did not do anything to cut off allocations for the military contractors? Yeah — it’s Hillary’s fault.

“Of course, Hills voted for this stupid war.” — And Obama, as President and Commander-in-Chief — has done nothing to end the war that he said he was against but never really got to vote on. What a fairy tale! Oh wait! Which war are you talking about? Cuz I know Obama called Afghanistan “the good war.”

“Oh, and her body woman, whatshername that married that loser Weiner. She gets to carry Hillary’s water and makeup. Other than that most of her top policy advisers are men. But she’s good at talking the talk and that’s all you all care about here on this blog.” — How ignorant!! Heard of Anne-Marie Slaughter? Cheryl Mills? Melanne Verveer? Ellen Tauscher? And Huma Abedin was considered to be among some of the best young minds even back in Hillary’s Senate staff — you know, she can multi-task while “carry[ing] Hillary’s water and makeup.” (And why do you consider Anthony Wiener — one of the few real liberal Democrats — a loser? You must be one of those ex-Republicans turned faux liberals like Arianna and Markos.)

And Obama has — Valerie Jarrett. Michelle Obama — hitherto independent career woman — has been turned into a Stepford wife. ‘Nuff said.

@Filipino- I am aware of Verveer etc. but who among her personal foreign policy advisers- the people at her side all the time helping to create her policies- are women? How many women are on the mideast negotiating team?

I’m not a fan of Obama btw so your silly PUMA-style rant was a waste of bandwidth. I do feel the need to correct your false equivalency- you bring up Hillary’s Assistant Secretaries (except Mills and Huma) who are technically nominated by the POTUS, and compare them to Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett as if those are the only two women in government promoted/nominated/selected by him? That’s intellectually dishonest, isn’t it?

    From women’s enews:

“Since he took office, Obama has appointed or nominated eight women to his cabinet or other high-level leadership positions and more than 50 percent of these nominees have been women of color. This is not only more than any other U.S. president, it’s a watershed moment in the history of women of color in this country.”

He’s also nominated more gays to high level positions than any other POTUS. Of course, his stance on gay rights kinda sucks- so no defense of him there.

You obviously prefer form over substance.

“Obama has appointed or nominated eight women to his cabinet or other high-level leadership positions and more than 50 percent of these nominees have been women of color. “: — so what have they been doing? AHilda Solis for Labor: What has happened to the Paycheck Fairness Act that Hillary had been fighting for since her Senate days? FYI, if there’s no Paycheck Fairness law, the Lily Ledbetter law becomes toothless. Health Secretary Sebelius — she couldn’t even get Stupak and Nelson, much less Obama, to provide minimum protection for women’s reproductive health in the great health insurance ‘reform’ law; but Obama was never a champion of women’s rights — the only Democratic president in modern history to effectively codify the Hyde Amendment. DHS Secretary Napolitano — we all know she’s not really in-charge; security decisions are made by “a few good men.” Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy — first woman to hold the post, what about policy influence? UN Ambassador Susan Rice — why does Scott Gration win the policy battle over Darfur? Special Assistant to President and National Security staffer Samantha Power couldn’t do anything the US continuing aid to countries deploying child soldiers.

Correction: Anne-Marie Slaughter is Director of Policy Planning and as such is the chief policy adviser to the Secretary. If you read Hillary’s speeches about “the interconnected world and multiple, multi-level partnerships,” that’s Slaughter’s hallmark (read her works while at Princeton so you will be informed). At least we know UNDERSECRETARY for Arms Control and International Security Ellen Tauscher worked hard on and continues to work her butt off trying to get that blasted New START treaty ratified despite undergoing cancer treatment. And, yes, she was Hillary’s choice and long-time supporter.

“How many women are on the mideast negotiating team?” — But why blame Hillary for that? After all, it is only now that she is slowly taking over the negotiations after Obama fell short in his testosterone-filled rhetorical war with Bibi over settlements (because Obama couldn’t deliver on his words). And let’s face it — there have been structural problems confronting women in national security and foreign policy. Just because you see no one so far in Hillary’s team doesn’t she didn’t want to have one. Besides, look at Obama’s Middle East experts in the White House — they’re all men.

And lest you completely lose perspective, Pan, the “rising female stars” of the Democratic Party’s national security and foreign policy circles threw their lot with Obama because they think like you — you know, “Hillary is a war-monger who voted for the Iraq war and wouldn’t apologize for it, unlike Edwards, Kerry and Biden who apologized and therefore made them less of war-mongers.” Oh, and how can we forget the famous Susan Rice statement about candidate Clinton — “Just because she was sleeping with the President doesn’t mean she has foreign policy experience.” Yeah, right.

Don’t tell me I’m wasting bandwidth with my “PUMA rant” — you started this, so better come up with more cogent reasons for your own rants. Otherwise, I will simply treat you as an astroturfer polluting an exceptional blog with your faux righteous anger.

Oh, so now you’ve gone from Obama only has Valerie and Michelle to essentially saying, yes, he has a lot of women in high places but they are incompetent and get nothing done? That’s quite a switch in analysis.

I agree that a lot of that stuff has gone nowhere but I’m not sure it’s completely those women’s fault. I’m not sure Sibelius should bear the brunt for the shitty health reform provisions, for example.

As for Susan Rice it’s tragic that Gration has been running this Sudan policy into the ground. Of course, the POTUS and Clinton both opposed Rice’s policy of going hard on Bashir, choosing instead to treat him like he wasn’t a war criminal and pretending he could be trusted. He’s made a fool of the US.

Again, I UNDERSTAND that Clinton has women like Verveer and Tauscher. But whenever I see Hillary at the Senate giving testimony she is surrounded by her aides behind her- you know, the people who do the policy grunt work and I can’t help but notice they area almost always men.

As for Clinton’s pro-military stance everything I have seen and read indicates she supports giving the military almost free reign. Apparently it would seem so does Obama. That was the point of my original comment. Naturally you assume it means I am some sort of Obama apologist and therefore only worthy of being mocked or accused of being just a troll- God forbid anyone disagree with anything Saint Hillary has said or done. To hear you guys tell it she never makes mistakes, never does anything for political reasons- she’s the only politician on earth who is perfect. That sort of makes you like the Hillary version of an Obot. Hillbot?

One other thing then I’ll leave you to worshiping Hillary in peace- Hillary and Gates did not agree with Obama going tough on Bibi over settlements. So while people can try to claim Hillary was for stopping settlement construction, she apparently wasn’t. She praised Bibi left and right in Jerusalem and made such a spectacle that she had to fly to Egypt to smooth things over.

Obama certainly has the responsibility for this mess ultimately though in the end in that once he decided to go strict with Israel on them stopping all settlements he shouldn’t have backed down no matter how hard Hillary, Gates, Emanuel and the Jewish Lobby pushed. So ultimately it’s obama’s fault but to pretend Hillary would go all out tough on Israel doesn’t jive with anything that’s been said about the inner workings of the WH nor does it jive with her long history of being a walking AIPAC talking point. But feel free to just respond by saying “well, whoever said that is lying” because you clearly have this idealized image in your head and anything that conflicts with that is just written off.

BTW- that quote was from his first 100 days and since that time there have been more women appointees.

What a workhorse! Did anyone see the National Geographic Special “Inside the State Department”? I don’t get the channel. I think there was some discussion about how Hillary’s populous “meet the people” style presents special problems for security. She is not your ordinary secretary of state.

I wish I had a smile like her.
