Secretary Clinton & Secretary Gates will appear on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press, ‘ABC’s This Week’ and ‘Face the Nation’ on CBS. Obviously, Libya will be the topic du jour.
Cool. I just wish Gates wasn’t with her.
And I hear Obama will speak to the country about Libya on Monday. Some think he has not addressed the public about Libya yet because he didn’t want the Libya military intervention to be conflated with Iraq and because he wanted to wait until leadership of the effort had been passed off from the US to NATO.
You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.
You don’t send in the military to another country and sit back and wait to address theAmerican people and Congress b/c you are worried politically about how things will be perceived. That’s not leadership and ironically it’s not politically smart. By not getting out in front of this Obama has yet again allowed his political opponents on the right AND the left to define the narrative- you just don’t do that and survive politically b/c then you are always playing defense and look weak.
My father, whose a veteran, brought up a good point- at thevery least Obama owes it to our men and women in uniform to explain what they are being sent to do and why. There is no such thing as a military engagement without risks to the troops.
