TGIF: Friday April 8th Appointments for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

April 8, 2011

FYI- I’m having trouble posting videos from Secretary Clinton’s meetings yesterday but I’ll try again later.

Here’s her schedule for today:

11:30 a.m. Secretary Clinton delivers remarks on the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2010, in the Press Briefing Room at the Department of State.

12:45 p.m. Secretary Clinton meets with Quartet Representative Tony Blair, at the Department of State.

3:30 p.m. Secretary Clinton attends a meeting with President Obama at the White House.

The release of the human rights report should be interesting. I just wish it wasn’t so politicized. I’m also not sure what the point is when we see countries like China engaging in their most oppressive crack-down in decades and all we say in response is “yes, we are concerned” and then we move the discussion over to Iran and demand action immediately.

I read that Brookings and Qatar are hosting a US-Islamic World forum in Washington DC next week, and the SOS is among the keynote speakers.

I always find it odd to read the “Arab world” or the “Muslim world”, etc. They have become very common phrases. As if we don’t all share the same world and have more in common than we do that separates us.

Yes, she will be there. It will be the first time it’s held in Washington and not Doha. I meant to put the announcement up yesterday but forgot. I’ll put something up today. It’s hosted by the Brookings Institution and I found an interesting write up of last year’s event about some of the tense issues that came up, primarily Gaza. This year will be interesting not only because of the democracy movements in the Middle East but also because of the failure of the peace process.

She’s got that look on her face of true confidence.
