9:15 a.m. Secretary Clinton holds a meeting with the Assistant Secretaries, at the Department of State.
10:15 a.m. Secretary Clinton officiates the swearing-in ceremony of James Jeffrey, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, at the Department of State.
11:30 a.m. Secretary Clinton delivers remarks on “The Global Health Initiative: The Next Phase of American Leadership in Health Around The World,” at Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
2:30 p.m. Secretary Clinton holds a development team meeting, at the Department of State.

I saw the end of the speech on Cspan early this evening. Very impressive!
I saw this in its entirety over at the SAIS site. A very good speech that is still building on Hillary’s development and evolvement of the theme of the three Ds(diplomacy, development and defense). Let’s see how these concepts are shaken when Jack Lew moves to the budget office and Robert Gates retires next year. She has been very lucky to have these men working along side of her.
The speech, I believe, shows how pragmatic Hillary is and how she has grown as an executive. The speech is quite long about 40 minutes followed by almost 30 minutes of Q and A (wish Obama would follow that practice). The SOS really shines in the question and answer section, providing clear and anecdotal examples of what she was driving at. When she steps away from prepared text she is incredibly passionate and empathetic. I have said it before but when you just question Mrs. Clinton without a script she is always clear and concise and frequently down right brilliant. Her grasp of all the issues is amazing. They say Bill Clinton is the best practicer of this kind of conceptual thinking but I think Hillary is his equal now.
I agree, Terry — she shines in the unscripted Q&A. Who else speaks in such clear, concise, carefully reasoned, nuanced, full paragraphs as Hillary did in response to one question:
It was fascinating to me that in our last strategic dialogues with Afghanistan, both when I was there last month and then in the recent visit by President Karzai and members of his government, their number one development request was to help on the issue of maternal mortality. Now, when you think about it – and we’ll sort of round all the way back to the first question about foreign policy, diplomacy, and development – there are varying degrees of attitudes within Afghan culture about interventions in health. But there is general agreement about trying to keep women alive as they deliver babies. So working – the Unites States working with other partners in a concerted effort on maternal mortality in Afghanistan gives you an opportunity to connect with segments of the population that may or may not be particularly supportive of anything else that we and others are doing.”
